The Mask

The Mask

My mask covers a face with pain

The Mask wears a smile

No happiness to gain

I walk silently through the world in my mask

Trying to stay focused

Trying to stay on task

I look at the world from the windows of my soul

Never understanding worldly stories I’m told

I lie behind the mask as well

I refuse to share my hell

When I am home I peel off my mask

I close my eyes

Forgetting about the world, in which I have ties

Curled under my covers

I’m safe and warm

No harsh words

Far from harm

The mask hangs silently on the wall

Just waiting for me to call
