I am not dying

Nor am I dead

I am here

In purgatory

It’s not life being lived

Nor am I on deaths door

A tired plain of existence

Walking as a ghost in plain sight

It’s not a terminal illness

That made it easy for people to move on with their lives

And left me behind

The more I talk of chronic pain and chronic illness

The more people think you are weak

They lose sympathy

They lose empathy

It didn’t happen to them

Aren’t they blessed

I am neither dying

Nor am I dead

I put on makeup today

I changed my clothes

I went to the store

I see people I know

They politely smile and move along

My return smile screamed for help

Yet you did not hear

For I am in purgatory

Neither dead

Nor dying
